In El Paso, 2016 saw an increase in robberies and burglaries. Last year, according to the El Paso Police Department spokesman Sgt Enrique Carrillo, there were 1906 vehicle burglaries. A vehicle burglary is when items are stolen from a vehicle. A high percentage of those burglaries were form unlock vehicles. Carrillo said “We often receive calls of suspects in parking lots or in neighborhoods pulling on door handles. They go from car to car until they find the one that’s unlock…leaving valuables behind, like cellphones, laptops, purses, and wallets make for easy lucrative targets.” Police officials are advising residents to take precautions. Carrillo advises to lock car doors and not leaving valuables inside.
